Deeper Meditations

Do you have a meditation practice and are wanting to take it to the next level?

Are you looking for a way to prepare for a Vipassana retreat one day?

Are you searching for tools to develop compassion, concentration, and health?

Are you looking to add community-based, secular ritual into your life?

What are we capable of when we mindfully engage the mind, body and energy?

I’m excited to offer a new sequence of Deeper Meditations on third Sundays from April to August of 2025. This five-class, in-person series will create a container/sanctuary for guidance in intermediate meditation techniques, and will be held at AIMwell Yoga in Kansas City, MO.

Deeper Meditations will positively challenge and elevate your meditation practice and add new tools to your wellness program.

Class will unlock access to creativity by opening a path for exploration of the subconscious and our connection to universal energy. Together, we will engage our minds into strong awareness of the now with techniques I have learned or invented over my many years of practice, including some techniques I experienced at the Marina Abramovic Institute in Greece.

Each two-hour class is designed as a secular ritual, co-creating a sacred space of vulnerability and exploration into our body-mind-energy connections. We will be doing light journaling at the beginning and end of each section, as well as leaning into archetypal energies from the “Archetypes” deck by Kim Krans. Classes will include intentional breath work coupled with intermediate level meditations.

What does secular ritual mean?

Why must ritual be associated with a certain religion? I believe we can create ceremony, honor connections, be intentional and sacred without having to call upon an established doctrine. Secular ritual is the coming together of folks in earnest togetherness under the sacred banner of being. Each individual is welcome to bring in and celebrate their own belief system, whether that is Buddhism, Christianity, Muslim, Hindu, Atheist, animist or any/all. We pledge to find our differences interesting and never antagonistic in this space.

Descriptions of each class are found below. Students are encouraged to listen to their bodies and may opt out of any exercise at any time, and will be provided alternative options for practice. Some of the exercises may be a bit challenging to one’s heart-space. There will be some light physical movement. We cultivate an environment of peace and security, where there is no pressure or judgement for others or ourselves.

Your meditation practice is always right as it is.
We will explore new techniques,
taking what works, and gently leaving what doesn’t.

The five class rubric is designed to create and sustain a vulnerable and nurturing container, and will be limited to twelve people. You will need only to wear comfortable clothes and bring a water vessel and your journal. The price for all five classes is $300. I will be accepting ten students plus offering two scholarships.

Who is Nettie Zan?

My meditation practice begins in the natural world, she is our divine teacher/mother. I have been working in altered mind-states and trance for over 30 years through my art practice and have recently begun to share my mindfulness techniques with the broader public.

I engage in trance for healing, creativity, and for connection to community. I am deeply committed to breathwork and mindfulness through both the lenses of science and spirituality. I specialize in creating secular rituals and unusual contemplative practices.

My degrees are in physics and math, my religion is an invented/discovered form of animism. I studied at the Marina Abramovic Institute for a 120 hour workshop. I spent a winter in Iceland at the base of a volcano tracking an arctic fox. I rode the flooding Buffalo River for five days. I encourage the self-discovery of connection to the divine. I teach nothing, instead, we learn together.

This class, Deeper Meditations, is the first time I have offered an intermediate mindfulness course. I’m really looking forward to joining together with some dedicated practitioners! Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, or just to connect! nettiezan@gmail.com
